Another summer, come and gone The frosty nip of the early morn Warns us of old man Winter's walk alone At his approach we must not scorn We patiently await his chilling bite To lay to rest earth's summer clothes That age old ritual by rite It rarely changes, this we know Fall's choice of many colors Brilliant red, darkest green and softest gold Scattered through our woods Showing off its brilliance so bold As we prepare for winters onslaught Our summer toys are put away Remembering past lessons taught So with winters rest we do not stray As the first leaves begin to fall We start our patient wait Of listening for Spring's first call It's visions of green we yet anticipate Knowing yet another year Will soon be coming to an end Some of it sad, some filled with cheer Strength from past lessons it did lend On and on time does travel Never slow and never fast Until our worlds do unravel And our lives have come to pass Memories and monuments left Living testimony of life's race From shallow crevice to deepest cleft Of challenges conquered and challenges faced |

Winters come and winters go, but we can't wish them away. Lovely poetry. Joyce |

You write with so much beauty and wisdom...this poem is lovely. Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

this is a very satisfying read my friend. I love the analogy. Looking forward to more.. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

I like your thoughts. Challenges come and go, just like the seasons. Enjoyed your poem. Thanks, Melton |

pegasus111, thank you for taking the time to read. I am glad you liked it. Melton, thank you for taking the time to read and for the nice compliment. I agree, challenges do tend to run along the same path as the seasons. |
