Voices of the Fall

The autumn leaves drop quietly.
They make no sound at all,
But in their silence I can hear
The voices of the fall.

The wild geese fly so loftily.
Their cries are lost in space.
The raccoon rambles by the creek
A dark mask on his face.

The mad loon laughs discordantly,
At things we cannot see.
The great owl's hoot and coyote's wail,
All sing of fall to me.

The flickers and the squirrels compete
Out at the feeding tray,
For anything put out to eat.
They have a lot to say!

All autumn sounds that I recall
And those I hear today,
Are voices of the fall, that I,
Will savor while I may!

Lovely just lovely.  I live too close to a road, mostly it is the sounds of semis hauling the produce.  Joyce

Betty, I laughed when I read this. Very soon the only voices we will be hearing here in New England are those of rakes gathering up billions and billions of fallen leaves.

But until that happens, the voices of Fall are a welcome change from those of Summer.

Hugs, Marti

Joyce:  Too bad you have such noisy trucks nearby. I love the country at this time of year.

Marti:  I can see where it would be hard to hear the sounds of nature, where you are. Here in the country, we gather up our own leaves and use them to cover plants and tree roots. It's a beautiful time of year.

I wake up to these wonderful sounds every day here in Florida. than you for expressing my thoughts so well....

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Trillium, fall is the most lovely time of year where i live in the bay area, though it must be nothing like autumn where you experience it.  thanks for sharing yours with me.

Our fall is nothing like this poem, so far this year!  It's will have to hurry and catch up if the rain stops one of these days!  Thanks for reading.

I love Autumn. It's my favorite time of year, but we really don't have much of a fall, it's just a nice change of temps after a long hot summer.
Enjoy how well you write!
