Sit down my friend and listen well to this sad tale I now must tell when I was young, before your time there was someone I thought was mine she was a dream that caught my eye that sweet young thing I won’t deny captured my heart, my head did spin a brand new life we would begin with that I paused, my mind adrift my hand to brow I then did lift and stroked awhile in silence then before I spoke of it again such plans we made just her and me and then she left quite suddenly no call or note to tell me why my heart ached so I couldn’t cry where did she go he asked in turn his face was pale with deep concern she left at night without a word it was sometime before I heard the car he drove went much too fast it crashed and burned nothing but ash my love was gone don’t ask me why she left with him only to die the years have passed I wear the grey I often think of that dark day a stranger took my love from me the love I sought would never be so now I sit just waiting here the porch is cool I sip a beer my sleep she haunts most every night no peace is gained this is my plight until I know just why she went and caused such pain my soul did rent was I a fool to love her so maybe I was I’ll never know someday when death comes quietly and smiles at me perhaps I’ll see my love in youth as she was then and I her man we can pretend that all is well no need to fret the past is past we best forget the sudden hurt of deep despair the bitter years she wasn’t there and so my friend you know it all be wise you see lest you too fall for one who lifts your heart so high then leaves without a fond goodbye the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

I lost a dear friend in much the same way, when I was a teen. Sad, but well written. Thanks, Melton |

Dear Pegasus, This is so sad and I hope it didn't really happen. But it is never wrong to truly love someone. Joyce |

ah what a story of life...perhaps played out many, many times throughout time. Well done, storyteller! |

Magnificently written! Peg you are a mmaster storyteller...loving someone is always wonderful no matter what..it is the closed heart which cannnot love, that is the saddest of all! A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

so sad and heartbreaking but a good tale. If your afraid of the dark, then why did you come? |
