Friends, my 500th post was a dedication to my father, and here I am with my 1000th post.... This I would like to dedicate to undoubtedly the greatest influence on my life (together with my father): My MOTHER. ...Thank you all in advance for reading this one... ... and I hope that you like it ... ~~~ Mother ~~~~~~~~ My dear Mother, you are my greatest teacher, Of life's many features - a universal preacher, Your infinite love, where else could I find, Spotlessly pure, abundant in warmth, divine and kind. You taught me morals, respect, values of character, Alphabet of human ethics right to the very last letter, And you showed me the beauty of pretty butterflies, Of countless stars shining in clear night skies. You told me stories of angels and tooth fairies, Of Kings and Queens, fables of God and of history, You nurtured this lazy mind into creativity, made me nosy, Answered my impish questions, helped my head feel cosy. Your teaching aids are wisdom and experience, Kindness, selfless love are your worldly ways, You tower above the stars in sheer magnificence, My heart holds your presence, in a trance I sway. Whenever I make a mistake, you would rebuke me, sure, But I do realise that your intentions are always so pure, Your words are theorems that push me on to perfection, Your methods are unique, forever full of tender affection. You carved me without using any chisel or hammer, Yet you always managed perfect precision, so deft, On many a cold night, your glow made me feel warmer, Clueless I am, unable to find, a way to repay this life's debt. My dear Mother, no treasure exists greater than you These words need neither a proof nor a clue; 'tis true On this Earth, my World, yours is the greatest institution The discipline your school enforces, is perfect constitution O dear Mother! Forever you will remain my soul's only Principal, O dear Mother! Forever I wish to be the most devoted disciple, O Lord Almighty! Please let this single wish of mine be granted, O Lord Almighty! There won't be anything more I ever wanted. ~~~ [This message has been edited by Sudhir Iyer (edited 06-26-2000).] |

This is a beautiful tribute to your mother. It's also a wonderful choice for your 1000th post! "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde "The robbed that smiles steals something from the thief" -Shakespea |

~Sudhir~ let me just say...this was BEAUTIFUL!! It brought many a tear to my eye. It sounds like you and your Mom have a beautiful and wonderful relationship! She sounds like a very wonderful woman and has certainly raised a fine son. This sweet dedication is proof of that. Congratulations on your 1000th post. As always your grace comes shining through with your amazing poetry. Take care my friend. -Amy- "Don't be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is before you can meet again. And meeting again after a moment or a lifetime is certain for those who are friends." "Fate exists but it can only take you so far, Because once you're there It's up to you to make it happen." |

Sudhir, Congradulations on your 1000th post, a wonderful tribute to your mother. Beautifully written, I am unable to pick a favourite piece as the whole poem is perfect. < !signature--> "but for the lovers, their arms Round the griefs of the ages, Who pay no praise or wages Nor heed my craft or art" Dylan Thomas. Sudhir, your words to your mother are precious and written in such a tender and gracious voice...she will treasure it, of course. Reading it gave my heart an ache, for it reminded me so fiercely of my own mother, who died just a few years ago. Your words of tribute to her are so very touching, my friend. Thank you, in earnest, for sharing it here with us. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

The deep emotion of this poem exposes the love , devotion and respect you have for your mother, and I can see that she would be the greatest influence on your poetry. She is very lucky to have a son like you Liz |

"You carved me without using any chisel or hammer, Yet you always managed perfect precision, so deft," So beautifully penned Sudhir! Though you write of your fortune to be blessed with such a lovely Mother ... I feel too, that she is fortunate to have "carved" such a loving and articulate son. This is absolutely lovely and an incredible tribute Sudhir ... I'm sure she will treasure this always. Beautiful! Best wishes, /Kit |
