I have this moment only that is mine
To wisely use or squander it away
To hide my light or brightly let it shine
To give my all while it is called today.
The past is gone and cannot be undone;
The future is not yet, might never be
A thing that I possess beneath the sun;
This present moment is a gift to me.
While it is called today I’ll do my best
To live as if this moment were my last
Not borrowing a stressing future test
Nor bound by sore regret of times gone past.

His drenching peacefulness will flood my soul
If I but make each moment my heart’s goal.

A lovely sonnet with a universal truth as its theme. Well done, Denise.

You banged the old nail on the head with this one, Denise. Each moment we have is our and only ours to deal with. It belongs to no one else and will never come again. Excellent writing, as always

Denise,
this reminds me of a saying which i am very fond of

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
Thats why we call it present

real glad i read this...thanx for writing a poem on one of my favourite sayings

You know, Michael can be so poetic at times. "You banged the old nail on this one!" What he means, Denise, it that this one is perfect.
