Ol' Hardrock, he did give me thought
when to Critical Analysis he said a lot...
and what it's like to be on stage
and not held in a POW cage.

So I say this to you:

Harrah to the critics from coast to coast
to them I lift my glass in toast
for whether they like me well or not...
poetry's my blood, it is my lot.

But to the men who've laid their being
to give us a future, sight unseen,
and struggled through the grievous wars,
with their blood thus shed on shores,

to them I lift my glass in toast
to the warriors from coast to coast,
to the men, and women too,
who cared for me, and cared for you.

I cannot imagine the struggle hard
to feel the blade, like glass'd shard
to know each night may be the last
to lose a soul in a bomb's blast.

I only know I spread my soul
and dance to my words for young and old,
I fear no spill of my own blood
only silence claims my piece a dud.

Oh each time I speak I tremble fair
as tho for my poem someone would care,
and in the silence of the hall and stage
I fear the walls of my own cage.

But,
