Pages of The Wall Street Journal Are flapping in the breeze. A laptop barely balances Upon her stolid knees. A cell phone at the ready Will link her to the latest deal. She's sitting here, al fresco, Waiting for her mid-day meal, Which is not exactly lunch; Nor is it dinner either. It's a sort of you know, kind of Gustatory breather. Sitting still to eat a meal (And savoring what you chew} Is something she's just too, Too busy now to do. So let's leave her at her table, She'll confirm what she's there for, When she adds up her portfolio-- That's her way of keeping score. |

I hope you don't mind me mentioning "American Psycho" it is one of my favourite books. The character in your poem inhibits a similar world to that of the main chararacter in the book. A sterile controlled way of life seems to be the fate of people on wall street. sorry for ranting, a wonderful poem. excellent observation. ------------------------ "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time". Baltimore Grotto "To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." E.E Cummings. manic street preachers "Culture Alienation Borebom and Despair" "I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing" -faster MSP "And you see, I kind of shiver to conformity Did you see, the way I cower to authority, you see And my life, it's a series of compromises anyway It's a sham, and I'm conditioned to accept it all, you see" six by Paul Draper. ----- |
