    Every sailor has a story..
    Every sailor loves the sea..
He's not afraid of work or glory..
He'll pay the price for living free..
His days are long, but his nights are longer..
When he calls the sea his home..
Town's up ahead, and he'll feel stronger,
with a good shot of whiskey..
         a little bit of music..
And a good-lovin' woman, that for one night..
         He can call his own......

The sailor's girlfriend pours the whiskey,
In that town just up ahead..
Smiling when she thinks how often..
He's slept like a baby in her big brass bed..
Seems like he's been gone forever..
But she's been going home alone..
Tonight they'll both feel so much better..
with a good shot of whiskey..
         a little bit of music..
Sweet, tender lovin', and for one night..
She'll make him feel right at home....

It's a 'take it', or 'leave it' kind of life..
Can't even call that man you're own..
When he calls the sea his wife!!
But sailor, or not, he's still a man..
    And wives don't always satisfy..
        But the girlfriend always can!!!!!

This was marvelous!  I don't know that I've ever started out reading a poem feeling sad and ended it by laughing right out loud, but this one I did.     It's great.  Amen, the girlfriend always can.

Yep, fun poem...girlfriends are always treated better than wives, because the hubby never sees them with their hands in the dishwater or being spit up on. ROTF

Good read.

                Yep, I agree...but there's
sometimes a rare case where a wife

Sunny...I gracefully bow my head to you, in recognition of your wonderful talent. This poem touched me, as I was once a sailor, and it brought back many memories. I gave my vote to you my dear friend,

Bill...
Thank you so much for your vote, and
this one just felt good. I grew up in
a fishing town, live in one now, and
this just slipped out!! I'm glad if
it brought back some good memories...
