Well, it's that time of year again, and High School Marching Bands all over the place are out in the heat and the rain, grumbling and griping "this is the LAST time I do this!". Of course that was the same gripe last year, the year before...but they find as do "true band parents" the excitement of the half-time shows, and contest just outweigh the practice agonies. As tribute to our band (6 year band parent) I wrote this for our band as they entered the stadium in WACO for state competition, and for those wonderful kids in band everywhere. And let's not forget the color guard who pratice and perform with the band and without whom the band would not be as bright.

I salute all of you for your persistence, dedication, camaraderie and sportsmanship!

And I salute the parents that are so important to your existence!

=================================================

War Eagle Band

Bravely marching
into the storm
of a stadium packed
arm to arm,
Their pristine uniforms
white over black,
Oak Ridge enters
the stadium door.

In step with a tap
on the edge of a drum,
every left,
every right,
precise and correct,
they silence the crowd…
which is hushed
with respect.

Drums in the center,
woodwinds
and horns,
to the right
and the left,
color guard
front and rear,
they face the crowd
as if to say,
"Look out, Look out
Oak Ridge is here to play!"

All is quite
all is still…
Then,
with a booming cadence that's grand,
step after step,
row after row,
Oak Ridge,
Oak Ridge,
War Eagle Band!

Wheeling and turning,
dipping and bowing,
note after note,
song after song,
they strut through their show…
and even the few who didn't believe,
are screaming and shouting,
"Yes, War Eagle Band!"

As the last note is played
and the last foot touches down,
a rumbling roar,
from the sky to the ground…
"War Eagles, War Eagles,
The Oak Ridge War Eagle Band!"

Appreciate it MA - and I changed it just a little to reflect the color guard as part of the show.  During marching season they are also and intergral part of the team.
