Willow Whispers Willow whispers haunt my mind With hushed words from another time Unspoken love vowed in a breath Will follow me until my death ‘Twas on a windy night like this That passion brewed within a kiss The visions flash of lying free The two below the willow tree The silence of their love within Was spoken only in the wind And when he left that lovely place There was no promise to embrace A haunting vision still appears Within my mind through all the years A perfect love, no spoken vows Below the graceful drifting bows A lover’s curtain willow weaves With oval moon between the leaves And oh, the sound, the silent sound Of willow whispers all around Now every time the willows blow It takes me back to long ago And conjures up a memory Of sorrow laced with ecstasy And still my heart in silence grieves When wind blows through the willow leaves Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth, Wonderful . . . **sigh** . . . LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

A deep heavy sigh here as well. Seems that a lot of us have some sort of a memory of that willow tree. You have penned one that goes in my personal file to be held onto forever. Simply beautiful and this one REALLY NEEDS to be in the book. Just say yes. ![]() |

Lovingly haunting...reminds me of one I did...you remember, the one with the Spanish Moss? This is exactly the type I like...the kind that make you feel and hear and touch and smell... lovingly haunting...do you hear an echo? [Geez, Elizabeth, those two words together...I know...I'll challenge you, and you challenge me, using those two words, I wonder what we could come up with?] Hugs, Sunny ~~~Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. Helen Keller ~~~ When you want to be loved, look within...KRJ |

Elizabeth what a beautiful setting. I can visualize the two lovers and then the recall of the fondness for such a special place. Very well done as usual....oh yes I love how the title captures the reminiscence. .....ethome.. |

Very, very beautiful! A winner. Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. -William Wordsworth- |
