Flag Day just passed on by I only know because the news Thought it would be a nice tidbit somehow that I could use It was my grandmother’s birthday and again I forgot A shiver runs down my spine I’m a grandson all for naught In the years past becoming a man grandma fades away I remember when we raised the flag on this special day But growing up and apart little things make up the past And memories are all I have, the gift to ever last She never once forgot my day and but oh how she fussed Mine was not on Flag Day but in the boring old August Action figures and baseball bats complete with ball and glove She gave me so many things but mostly she gave her love This will be the first year I won't be sending her a card I will make a solemn trip that right now seems very hard When I reach the door and knock, my heartstrings receive a tug I see Grampa standing there and give him a great big hug Grandma sleep well tonight twas drafty I wore a sweater It might be late; the flag is up, now I’m feeling better. ~Aawww Walt,...this is just lovely. So sweet of you to express and share. Also,..I found the 14 syllables for the 14th day to be pretty neat. hehe. Great work. *Peace. |
