on hills of clover ... a standing ridge on hills of clover her skirt, wind's prisoner to capture in concert with swaying breeze's over fabric singing saddened song of rapture looking past on hills of slaughter the tears, steel-cold upon her face love's shedding skin of salted water as soaking sorrow draws blood from lace the flower held by her wanting hands her gift, a leaving's lone sacrifice her warrior's return from faraway lands penchant enough for her just suffice year upon year without word's ascent her ears, listening but for one breath she falls into gloom's darkest lament to hear only a word of his lonely death tinge of gray seeps into flowing locks her frailty, forlorn's weakening weight one night's stare into death's faceless clock 'til her life's own meets its ending fate a standing ridge on hills of clover her smile, threatening an unforced return as her brave warrior closes to eye her over embracing love's hope, never more to yearn M.A. Miller 05.21.00 (this was posted as a compliment piece to Meadowmuse's, "My Lady" ... Thanks Claire) < !signature--> My calling before me, let quill be my offering; For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive. My word, what you can do with the English language! This is an enchanting measure of devotion's dole, M.A. Thank you for gifting us all with this tragic treasure. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |
