~Lessons Of A Butterfly~

Can you hold a butterfly in your heart ...
and still open your palms to set it free.
Can you hold the hand of a fallen angel ...
then by healed wings ... let him fly to eternity.

Can you kiss the sweet lips of ~Fate~ ...
can you dance with ~Destiny.~
Can you build a bridge of ~Love~ ....
can you ~Love~ unconditionally.

Can you forgive the unforgivable ...
can you see with understanding eyes.
Can you keep sorrow's secrets ...
can you hear a lost child's cries.

Can you honor a heart's golden promise ...
can you hear the words unspoken.
Can you write the rhymes to heal ...
can you mend a heart and soul once broken.

Can you close your tired eyes ...
and still help another see the light.
Can you light their path with love ...
and illuminate their darkest night.

Can you whisper in the wind ...
can you hear the echoes of love ...
Can you hear this prayer ...
can you allow your heart to rise above.

I have loved a ~Butterfly~ ...
and instead it set ~Me~ free.
I have been held in the wings of an ~Angel~ ...
and been kissed by ~Fate~ & ~Destiny~

~Butterflies Are Meant To Be Free~

"Butterfly"
Mariah Carey

When you love someone so deeply
They become your life
It's easy to succumb to overwhemling fears inside
Blindly I imagined I could
Keep you under glass
Now I understand to hold you, I must open up my hands
And watch you rise

Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly were meant to be
So spread your wings and fly
Butterfly

I have learned that beauty
Has to flourish in the light
Wild horses run unbridled
Or their spirit dies
You have given me the courage
To be all that I can
And truly feel your heart will
Lead you back to me when your
Ready to land

I can't pretend these tears
Aren't overflowing steadily
I can't prevent this hurt from
Almost over taking me
But I will stand and say goodbye
For you'll never be mine
Until you know the way it feels to fly

well i now have found my favorite
poem by you. let me tell ya, that was
a hard decision!! this is ABSOLUTELY
breathtakingly beautiful in form, rhyme,
appearance, structure, and feeling. as you
would say this is poetic perfection at
its best. All of your poems are wonderful
but something about this one really struck
a chord deep inside of me.
take care.

SOmetimes the answer is yes and sometimes no....but after reading your poem I feel I can do anything. So beautiful and delicate,  the words floated elegantly just like a butterfly...wow

Butterfly Slippers,
If your poem wasn't awesome enough, S'en then writes that little minipoem in her reply that sends me even higher into the sky. The only downtime was Mariah Carey -- blech!   Thanks for posting this.

Well, nothing from my smut-mouth is gonna equal all these glorious responses you've already gotten, but hey, you know me.  Have to put in my 2 cents here on this lovely work of heart....

This girl, sure sings out with tears of fulfillment.  If you're like me, you just consider yourself lucky to have had a small space in time with this man.  The lessons you learned, and the memories you still appreciate are priceless...You just keep honoring him as long as you need to girl.  Much love from me.

So beautiful from beginning to end! I can see the relationship between the two sets of words. Moriah should take a few lessons from you, but she'll probably do okay. Very very well done. I loved the questioning presentation.
