On March 25, 2000, in Albuquerque, NM, Profeesional Bull Rider Glen Keeley was injured by the bull "Promise Land", and died that night of abdominal injuries. This is my tribute to one of the "big, little men" of the PBR. A champion in keeping with such immortals as Freckles Brown, and Lane Frost.

There’s a whole lot more than height and weight-
Which measure up a man.
Some big ones are the little guys-
Their bull-ropes in their hands.

They pull their ropes, and take their wraps-
And tell the man, “Outside”…
Their goal in life is one more show,
And a good eight-second ride.

The East coast to the West coast,
From farms and cities, too…
They draw their bulls, and make their rides,
And move on when they’re through.

Glen Keeley was just such a man-
A champion from his birth-
And whether he drew good or bad-
He’d ride for all he’s worth.

Canadian, he won the gold-
Back there in eighty-nine,
Tonight in that Great Hall of Fame-
His name is sure to shine.

Promise Land’s the bull he drew-
Out in New Mexico-
That’s where the big bull sent him-
At the Albuquerque show.

He left a family and friends…
Here at the great divide,
And joined Lane Frost, and Freckles Brown,
O’er on the other side.

He will be greatly missed.  Many times I have cried for those ' guys' out there.
Thanks for a great tribute and a wonderful poem.

Nice writing gunslinger...I don't know these bull rider champions by name but I know that they are brave and tough men that can take a lickin and keep on tickin.  Wonderful tribute...James

Wonderful post Gunslinger!  I don't get on here as much as I'd like to, but I wanted to let you know that I love everything you write.  You have that western flavor that I love so much.  Keep up the great work!!
