My Sunshine


My heart skips a beat
My breath catches in my throat
My hands begin to shake
A smile travels across my lips

Who would have thought,
That you would have
This kind of wonderful
Effect on my heart
For so long in my life
I have been afraid
To open myself
To let someone in

Somehow you did it
You broke down the walls
That I built up so high
Around my delicate heart
All the emotions I feel
I can’t even begin to explain
Fear, happiness, anticipation
So many more swirling inside

But I welcome them
Having felt nothing
For such a long time
But you changed that
You erased the shadows
Erased the loneliness
You gave me sunshine
And showed me love

I am so thankful for you
I will treasure you for
Everything you are
And everything you will be
