Hey MA... I'm not a counrty fan, this just slipped out of me after our origin of music discussion. The neighbour next door was blasting Country music at his barbecue.

A New Cowboy

A Christmas gift from Dad and Mom
with faith and promise to a son.
A new guitar and a leather strap
an EZ chord book and cowboy hat.

Wound up strings twisted tight,
practise sounds into the night.
Sing like George and pick like Roy
The desert calls a new cowboy.

Filled with pride to hit the road
telling tales in songs of hope.
Smoke filled rooms, beer drenched bars
a lonely place to see the stars

Picking strings with cover art
waiting for the break to start
Driving roads and reading maps
hauling gear and getting patched.
Singing songs like superstars
crying from the naked heart.
Writing words sponged from the soul
where new cowboys find their home.

Searching for the big ballroom
Changing roles like fire consumes.
Another try a different style
brand new band a sound that's wild.

Through the cycle through the pain
strains of rhyme can't be explained.
amidst a thousand chords of hope
there's lies the satge where glory gropes.

Time slides by the dreams still active
like crystal light on boiling rapids.
But if you listen above the noise
the desert calls a new cowboy.

Pickin strings with cover art
waiting for the break to start.
Driving roads and reading maps
hauling gear and getting patched.
Singing songs like superstars
crying from the naked heart.
Writing words sponged from the soul
where new cowboys find their home.

Thank you Martie...tis true Home On The Range seems like forever ago.  A cow is a large animal with horns capable of providing meat and dairy products, (Readers Digest Version).

Paula, you're right dreams are so much a part of life. Thanks for reading.

Maureen it's true you never know what might inspire. Thank you for dropping in.

Seymour I'll attend your first concert if you promise to sign my ticket.

Rex I ain't got a yodel in me, partner. Thanks for the twist of humour.

I've got the cows [and calves]...you can be the boy.

Loved it!

MA...it was an idea you inspired because I wondered about the origin of that kind of music after reading your poem. Thanks for the discussion.
