Ebony Ed is black on his head And black on his stomach and back, Black on his nose, black on his toes-- Ed is exclusively black. Ed must have heard that he was a bird, For quick as a bird he would speed To every bird's goal, the tray on a pole Where blue jays and cardinals feed. He'd climb to the tray in his squirrely way, But eat like a dove or a finch. If he heard someone shout, he'd turn about And revert to squirrel, every inch. The brain in the head of Ebony Ed Isn't as big as a plum. But don't suppose, as intelligence goes, This little rodent is dumb. This squirrel, you've heard, is a little bit bird, And his story has something to teach. Be one thing? What for? Ed eats a lot more By being something of each. |

Ah Dom, you've captured the little beggar well! I've got a few of 'em in my back yard...and while they don't share Ed's choice of fur apparell, they do make like birds and fly when my dog is let out for a quick "chase 'em up the tree..." I had a good laugh this morning, thanks! Sunny ~~~Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. Helen Keller ~~~ When you want to be loved, look within...KRJ |

This has a perfect meter - technically speaking. And as for content..well, I like it very much! A cute idea for a poem. |

Dom~ This is just adorable ... and leaves one with ponder. I think I like 'Ebony Ed' ! How cool to be 'something of each' ! No thought - or snack out of reach ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
