    Is

Can I tell you again
oh heart of wishes
oh dream that dreams big dreams
oh youth
can I tell you
that this fragrant day
will pass
and that the moon is

Can this bursting
that hurls you against the sky
listen to a quiet moment
and hear the compassion
that clings to the fabric of time
listen to the pain
sizzle and dry on the hot cement
hear the laughter
through the tunnel
through the black hole
that melds time and distance
and fills up with the color of lasting

It seems this suitcase has been emptied
so many times
cleaned out and put away
washed and folded
where is the wrinkle that attaches
with that comfortable unwash
the human smell of knowing

So we feel the sharpness and sand it down
take the nub and straighten it
place fabric on the perfect striations
and cover the spirit
make the child draw between the lines

Can I tell you again
that the spirit that is rough rock and raging river
that folds its energy into creation
that changes one small grain of sand
over years into a jewel

IS

You never cease to amaze me and it seems so effortless for you.  Excellent poem and the thoughts that it conjurs up well......what can I say?  I'll probably be back to this one.

Thanks Kit for the read and for saying such nice things.

i doubt me or my moody muse has the words
to do this poem justice...
I dont think I'll even try...
I'll just go read it again...
and say "damn" again as well

MArtie, another poetic jem. beautifully written as always.

why must we pray
screaming? why must not death be redefined? we shut our eyes we stretch out our arms and whirl on a pane of glass-patti smith
