The day I found you Gone

The saddest sad I ever had
was the day you walked away.
The pain seemed more than I could bear
to open the door with no one there.
A thousand days passed me by and still no one can ever hide
those storm clouds that gathered in the sky
and all those tears that fell from my eyes
on that day I found you gone.
If only you could feel all the pain in just one day
and then the pain would go away wouldn't that be great.
But believe me it doesn't happen that way...
the pain goes on and on and it doesn't seem to ever want to go away.
Now ten years have come and gone
but tender thoughts of you and traces of the pain
still ever briefly linger on
reappearing in my mind to once again remind me of the life we shared
and the day I found you gone.

That would be wonderful if it could go away that fast but alas, to be human and very sensitive, the pain remains. I know the feelings you are describing and I share them with you. Great poem!

Wonderful writing as always James.  Reflections of the past do have a way of haunting us.

James,

Oh, I can feel the pang of pain in your heart brought forth by the memory of what once was.  This was great writing my friend.  Sometimes we have to look back so that we can look ahead once more.  I hope you can hang onto the happy times and let go of the sad times.  Best wishes.

Thank you all for your warm comments...it was ten years ago and it was a day of total despair and shock...because I would not let go of her I was in a very desperate place for about one year and it probably took me about three years to accept my fate and let go...I would not wish my situation on anyone...in retrospect...it was mostly my fault...and if I accepted my position sooner I would not have suffered so much...James

Oh James, that was beautiful!
Read aloud, it just about floored me.
What a capture.  Great poem!

Poignantly written, James - the lost loves stay with us, don't they?
