The Edge of Night Swallows singing at the break of dawn Night’s fallen wetness veils the lawn Before the sun invades the dark This is the time of meadow lark This is the day’s most splendid hour Before the sun has touched the flower Before the sky outlines the trees When freshness fills the morning breeze The skyline glows with purple hues Small sounds rise up through morning dews You’re standing on life’s passageway On the edge of night and the brink of day Your heart’s in ecstasy’s domain But you sense early dawn will not remain Your bliss of the moment is overpowered For next will come God’s most splendid hour Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 07-17-2000).] |

This is the day’s most splendid hour Before the sun has touched the flower ... The skyline glows with purple hues Small sounds rise up through morning dews --- many times have I noticed the loveliness of the break of dawn... but found it very diffcult to express the emotions felt then... and you do it so well... with absolute ease... Liz, a nice poem here... regards, sudhir |

"This is the day’s most splendid hour Before the sun has touched the flower" Indeed it is. Wonderful work! God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown |

Liz, Beautiful images. Just gorgeous. Wishing I were there . . . sigh. Great writing!! LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

"You’re standing on life’s passageway On the edge of night and the brink of day " I don't think this line could simply be any more perfect ... what wonderful renderings to compliment an already exquisite poem. Beautiful Elizabeth! Best wishes, /Kit |

Beautiful Elizabeth! I love the old traditional style poetry and the timing is perfect. The words in the lines are so well placed, having the best possible effect on the emotions of the reader. I got caught up in the beauty of the scenes, peaceful, relaxing, flowing........ |

Beautiful, Elizabeth! Have to mention also, though, that my grandma used to watch "The Edge of Night" - a soap opera, and that's what first came to mind when I saw the title! Corinne |
