pleas(e.e.) ...

Your old book smell infecting my senses;
My wish to absorb its words as easy.
Dust plumes float off pages so tender;
Hope catches its meaning in my eye's eye.
Crackling jacket wearing binding's bones;
A long night's silence broken by its cry.

To air, to airs goes my aged bound friend;
Companion's thought grinder as wheat to mill.
Compels wheels of my mind to faster spin;
Speeding passages finally slowed to a crawl.
Reader's read again 'til a bleeding sweat;
Down my face runs liquid's captured fall.

Pleas(e.e.), return to help a helpless fool;
Making sense of your senses, arduous toil.
I beg your indulgence to live once more;
Return on my whim wishing 'cross time.
To hear your mysteries finally unfurled;
Feed me a clue -- A rhythm -- A rhyme.

My calling before me, let quill be my offering;
For to be called poet, no greater gift to receive.

Can I be statistical and get away with saying 3 wonderful stanzas, and 18 beautiful lines.... instead of saying Excellent poetry???

I wonder....

MA Miller,
My regards,

thank you Sudhir ... Not sure if many here are familiar with cummings' work, but take a read sometime, you'll be, uh, flabergasted ... or maybe gaberflasted ...

Excellent write and with such an abundance of afterthought left lingering in the mind.
I'll have to check out his work if it can inspire such as this.

I have been a cummings fan for many years and have such a book as you describe... with pages turned back and backbone bent...Great poem!

MA one of my favourite quotes is an E.E Cummings quote.

"To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting".

E. E. Cummings

I will have to search out some of his work, your poem has made me thirsty for knowledge and good poetry. A wonderfully written poem.

My thanks again to all who've responded, but the real thanks goes to mr. cummings himself ...

for without, my calling be to skies of empty ears -- to ears deaf to the skies ...

thanks again.

many thanks to Sven, Paula and Gemini ...

I'm actually fairly new to Cummings' work, but such a profound influence it can be ... Never to try and copy his style, so much as reach the depth of thought that he had to have put into it ... thanks again ...
