Lost Awhile...breaking the rules

This poem may be breaking the rules as it is not my own work. I was reminded of it by the posting "A Mother's Goodbye Letter", which really touched me. This poem was written by A.Mary R. Dobson. It was given to me by my own mother shortly before she died of cancer. She had carried it with her since my father died, some seven years earlier. It helped me to come to terms with losing her. I hope it may help someone else.

Together once we wandered glad,
When spring was in the land;
We watched the young shoots burst and flower,
We watched them, hand in hand.
But now - that springtide past and o'er -
I - I am left alone,
And earth is not the same to me,
Dear, now that you are gone

I know that we shall meet again -
Your eyes shall gaze in mine;
Our love shall be a thousandfold,
Since lost in Love Divine.
Till then, God only knows the pain,
God only knows the smart;
I feel the touch of others hands,
But long for yours, dear heart.

Love is like the mumps.....the older you are, the harder it hits you!

Not - what a lovely tribute to your Mother. This is such a sweet poem of love. I think you did well to post it here. Thank you also for your reference to the poem I submitted for the book.

  and sometimes we need to hear that love
  is never-ending, eternal.
