I want to be happy. Put a burning candle in my ear. I want to be happy. Eat less and less -- see my beautiful bones? I want to be happy. Comfort food is a warm blanket. I want to be happy. Unroll this condom, dear. I want to be happy. Dark trails up my arm. I want to be happy. Music shines a brief escape. I want to be happy. Church for our jested god. I want to be happy. Let's get married, dear. I want to be happy. Lift those weights. Higher. Harder. I want to be happy. Just ran a marathon. I want to be happy. Library's sweet, hopeful lies. I want to be happy. Let's start a family, dear. I don't want to be happy. No need for manic edge. Just some peace, to understand. No brief joys and tugging sorrows. No need, my poetry. |

Glad you enjoyed, Sunny1. And full and heady makes me think of the beer I can't afford. Woe is me. Mike |

WOW Mike this is powerful stuff...with the title I thought maybe you had some answers... I guess those answers lay deep within each of us...each different and equally important to find. Great writing~ |

serenity, Glad you enjoyed. The poem is meant to question our "pursuit of happiness" to begin with. Life isn't always going to be happiness -- so why paste artifical smiles on everything? Love the irony, don't you? ( i knew you would ) Butterfly Slippers, living the feeling more than the instances. At least I hope! B_d_c, thanks. The title was there to mock our quick-fix solutions. The answer IS inside, not external. Glad you enjoyed. Mike |
