~*LETTING SUPERMAN GO*~ I remember when I used to walk around in your larger than life steel-toed boots, in my own little dreamland filled with pride that I was in my daddy's shoes, a flawed super-hero wearing a red cape that only my eyes could see, a poor imitation of Superman, but, still, I loved you, as my daddy, you were perfect in an innocent, unknowing child's eyes, but, in reality, you were a monster, my tormentor, I was not supposed to take care of you, you were supposed to take care of me, and guide me and love me unconditionally, I was the child in need of an idol, a hero, I needed someone to believe in me, I needed a parent, I longed for a daddy, you yelled and yanked and hit and emotionally destroyed this little girl, a great tragedy that even Superman himself could fall before kryptonite and allow it to defeat him, by destroying his Wonder Woman and his child, with his very own hands and words, you let me down, daddy, you bruised this little girl's soul, and now she's grown up and doesn't believe in super-heroes anymore, when I was a child, I ached for you to be my Superman, a fantasy in a hopeful child's mind trying to find some good in a man filled with darkness, daddy, you let me down, it's time I let you go and find the hero within myself to fly away from this pain with my own cape of courage *By Melissa Honeybee* The beauty of poetry gives me wings to fly [This message has been edited by Melissa Honeybee (edited 07-10-2000).] |
