What made it today?
You had a heart attack
In the front yard
Of your white picket fence
The mortgage just paid
Your house and
Your life
And there crouched
Above you
Is your beautiful wife

The sun wasn’t shining
No harsh words were said
Your shoelaces were tied
And now you lie dead

What made it today?
The death angel comes in drag
He’s Heavenly arrayed
With pert wings and body bag

What made it today
A tickle of fate?
Where Chance meets
Destiny
On a quiet avenue
Trade white picket fences
For a high rise
With a view

And you have life

Hey Walt
this is great!! especially loved the ending
Trade white picket fences
For a high rise
With a view

And you have life

I read this as ... he is on the other side with a new life.

Loved it!!

Yes, I am here, but I am dead, not alive,
my body goes on, my spirit has died
and I though alive, feel dead inside.

Walt, you had me expecting a cute piece of fluff and surprised the hell out of me..there's a lot to this poem and you have crafted it very well...impressive indeed.
