My voices prompt me, once again, in their demanding way,
For just one minute, be diverted from the tasks I've set today.
Though four gray walls surround me, my solitude's not complete,
My self-created distractions keep getting the best of me.

My mind begins wandering as I read the sentences anew,
I've read and reread every line, but the words aren't getting through.
Each time I start to read once more, praying I'll comprehend,
Distractions interrupt me, and I'm forced to start again.

I shift uneasily in my chair, leaning closer to the pages,
As my concentration wavers, then finally disengages.
Frustration wells inside me as I struggle back on track,
Praying that, just for an hour, I can stay on a single task.

Laziness, craziness, a singular lack of self control,
All of these are adjectives for the demons of my soul.
Its not that I do not desire to pull my given weight,
I include this burning need in every wish and prayer I make.

But still the voices haunt me, the distractions do not fade,
As I bend to my appointed tasks and struggle though my day.
The guilt of not living up to the potential I know is there,
Casts a pall upon my accomplishments, tempers every care.

Yes, my vision is 20/20, but my mind is kaleidoscopic,
Radiated by faceted lenses that only see anisotropic.
I'd have my other senses if only my eyes were blind,
But what senses have I left when the glare is deep inside?

I know there are many others who "see" poorly just like me,
But this is little consolation when I am struggling to be free
Of these senseless distractions that pull me in opposing ways,
Each as important as the last, each demanding that I stray.

"Just focus on a single task," well meaning friends advise,
But every distraction IS a task.  Why don't they realize
That facet lenses, distracted senses, are not a choice of mine?
They are my gift for seeing every event all of the time.

Liked this one immensely... Gifted Sight, true...

hi ya, Sunny and Sudhir - thanks for the blessings - I suspect there are a lot more "kaleidoscopic" poets in here than in a normal cross section of the population.  ADD has its drawbacks, and its rewards.

A stunning piece held me all the way through with out me getting distracted and that is not an easy thing to do.

This is excellent! Yeah, you're guess is probably right. I have a feeling there are many who are ADD in here. Some of the most talented usually are. In my case, I jump from one thing to another because I get bored too easily or I sometimes zone out into my own little world because my mind is always going ALL the time.

This is the second one of yours that I've read and I love it!

Great writing! I hope to see more of yours in the very near futur.

Man, can I relate to this!  You've nailed the writer's frustration with this one, babe!

It's a keeper!

LongJn-I think at times I should like to see the way you do, sometimes only seeing the one thing at a time means to miss alot of the other life's goings on.  I liked your perception.  Nice read.

I seem to have that problem when reading. I can read quickly but that don't mean I've absorbed what I read all the time. Sometimes it takes a few times to try and get it. Sometimes I just give up all together.

I love this one! I'm glad to see you back here

And hey! When ya gonna post one for the book??

Thank you all for your encouragement and comments.  Now, lessee, where was I?  Oh, yeah.  What book is that, lil White Dove?  I'm in and out of the loop so much, I miss all the events.

Brian - Thanks for sticking with the poem - it started out on a lighthearted slant, then digressed from there into a more to-the-point description of how things seem to get away from me.

Sunny - *perk*  Poster Girl?  Do we get to pick the pose?  *suggestive wigglin' eyebrows*

'Deer - I keep my attentions firmly fixed on your nefarious schemes to make yourself Harem Master - Naturally, I'm jealous of your success - lol - It's good to be back

kat - Yanno, that name of yours is "inspiring" to me * I really do love them little kitties* - lol - Thanks for your words of "Come on over and see me sometime"

Marge - Yanno, finding a word that rhymes with 'kaleidoscopic' and that is relevant to the subject was not all that easy - Thank God  for Daniel Webster!  It is good to be back and see so many of my old companions still hitting it on a regular basis with consistent quality - your poems to come to mind.

Corinne - Thanks for your compliment - As for nailing it, "Darlin', if you only knew" - lol

Ms deVine - Hugs for you.  I would love to hang around, if only I had some female encouragement *this is a really cheap attempt to get more strokes*

Gemmie - Be careful what you wish for - its not exactly something that can be turned on and off at will *unlike me when lil Lorelei has her way

Hey!  Sy - Its great seeing you in here - Thanks for the kudos.  Are you keeping Mike on his toes?

Sunny *double perk*  I do???  Just one question - concerning your cute glyphic - {^,^}

Is this supposed to be an expression of innocence?  Or, is this a representation of your torso *heh heh heh*  Incidently, nice navel you've got there... and perkie???  don't EVEN get me started!

geez, perhaps I need to go to those lopsided jobbies for expressions that cranes everyone's neck!

and here I thought you were a stand-up type guy...

don't even get me started...

I love your poem, great writing
