Hearken gentle people Listen to my tale About a young man Who lived in yon dale He was a simple farmer Who knew not love Until one day and angel Came to him from above The angel spoke to him "Oh farmer do not fear For I have come To dry thy lonely tears" The farmer spoke to her "Gentle angel I thank thee For bringing love to my life And helping me to see" The next day he woke From his gentle dream Was she really there The angel he had seen? Just as he wondered Came a knock at his door And when he opened it up He knew lonliness no more ------------------------------------------------------------------ < !signature--> That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl [This message has been edited by Sven (edited 07-05-2000).] |

And dreams sometimes do become reality...with a knock on the door, or a phone call, or a look into anothers eyes. James |

Thank you to all. . . This poem really doesn't conform to the "textbook" idea of what a ballad is. . .but I still like it. . . The ballad originated as a folksong that tells an exciting story. It is a popular poetic form all over the world. The traditional ballad form is made up of four-line stanzas. Lines 1 and 3 have four beats each and lines 2 and 4 have three beats and rhyme. BTW, if you'd like to learn more about ballads, sign up for this month's class in the Poetry Workshop Forum, they are covering this form this month!!! Thank you my friends again. . . --------------------------------------------------------- That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |
