I May Not Be A Poet

I may not be a poet,
But still I write, it’s true,
Everyday words spill out,
sometimes they’ve been for you.

Opinions lost on paper,
Or trapped inside my willful head,
To paraphrase Joan Baez
“My poetry was lousy you said.”

I tried to give you part of me
You rarely seemed aware
Only when I turned to leave
Did you pretend to care.

Yes, your words are masterful,
Intellect and graceful ease,
but I’m a person with a right
to write whatever I please.

So keep your thoughts to yourself
Listen to what your mother said
If you can’t say anything nice
It’s better left unsaid.

Corinne~

If 'poet in your heart'
means anything at all
then know that you dwell
in this poet's hall

You've taken this spirit
'Where Rabbits Assemble' on the plains
Ancient mariners have come forth
in the poetry of your name.

Never before had I sailed
to 'Isla Mujeres' of delight
until your words took me there
one poetry-filled night

To the constellation
of 'Seven Sisters' of the Pleiades
you transported me in time
as gently as you please

In your phrases
of poetic render
you have touched
this heart with tender

Write on dear poet !
Love ya'

Thank you, Enigma, Martie, MagnoliaBlue and Janet Marie.

Marge, you are one hell of a nice person, thank you for bolstering my spirits. I shouldn't let this person bother me, I know, and it wasn't so much that he told me I'm no poet, but that he wanted to hurt me.

Thanks again for your wonderful support, Marge!

Well, my friend ...
whoever 'he' is ...
'he' can go suck rotten eggs !
LOL at me ! !
Do NOT reveal 'his' name to me
Tee-Hee !
Why I believe I'd have to have the
spirits of the poets-of-the-pages-past
draw bead on 'him' !
Many a maniacal muse on the loose
in the revenge of the night !

Heck .. here we are giving 'him'
more bandwidth than 'he' deserves.
We shall just banish 'him' to anonymity !

You delight me with that
Grrrrr .... dynamic personality of yours.
Have a wonderful day my POET friend.

You know what they say those who can, do those who cant teach, or become critics or politicians, I personally love your work I think its very fresh and original but I'm not a critic (thank god ). Art is for the people and I know what I like,

Corinne,
Not only are you a poet, my dear, but you are one of the best and truest poets I know, because you write from the heart.  And that is what poetry, true poetry, is.  Don't worry about this person and what he said, for I promise you, he can't hold a candle to the talent that you have, dear!

From what I have read of your work you are a poet of the highest order!

Yes indeed a poet you are
Write on with pen in hand
We banish him to worlds afar
Off with him to jealousy land

He does not deserve to know your talent and I pity a man who does not see the beauty you
bring us all with words from the heart.

Hi Corinne,

I love when another POET can express exactly, perfectly, awesomely, how I feel, I have had to fight every minute that I have been on this site, for the SAME reasons and you are so right they just want to hurt you, you should see how  HE dances around NOW that this book has become an idem, actully I love it because I know HE is just plain MEAN and UGLY and I NOW DO NOT CARE what HE thinks. My dear Miss. Poetress you just made my week, oh heck my month, thank you so much.

Love,  Cerenity

You vented with grace...I know I couldn't
have done it...lol  This has happened to me
and due to our poetic souls it stings deep.
But what gets us through is also our poetic
soul and the reason that most of us write...
to heal and show our love...one idiot can't
replace the hearts you've touched with your
poetry!  Thank you for sharing this dear poet
**hugs**

Corinne

You've been criticized for your writing???  Well!  I have never been criticized for my pretty words *supercilious smugness*.  What's that?  My kitty-kicker poetry??  What about that???  *hmmppphhhh*  All you do is bring up my bad points!  lol

I love your writing, Corinne - and if you are such a poor poet, why is it that, even after a year and reading literally hundreds of poems,

"Darlin', if you only knew."

still resides firmly in my mind as one of the best poetic conclusions I've ever read?

There will always be those of less talent who can find worth only by devaluing the work of others.  But, I believe that there is something good that can be found in something bad.  In this case, it is so easy to find.  Your wonderful words are driving somebody crazy; and, apparently, he deserves every minute of it.  How about another poem?  You know, a little salt in the wound?

As for YOU, Cerenity, well... to hell with him - what does HE know?!  Gore Vidal once summed it up quite nicely when he was asked how he survived in spite of all the criticisms of his writing:  "I survived by realizing that it was me who was keeping the score."  You appear to be surviving the same way.

Corinne,
LngJhnAg and all others have beautiful points here....

If I may add a few words of my own...

Don't let your poetic heart be bothered,
Believe in your work, as I know it to be amazing,
Don't let your lovely soul be smothered,
Believe in yourself, for you are then bound to be strong....

Keep up your great work!
Regards and take care,
Sudhir

Yes, you are a poet!  Don't let anyone tell you differently.  This is a wonderful piece.  I know how you feel.  The same thing happened to me recently and I quit for a short time.  After much contemplation I figured I'm writing to please myself.  I don't need anyone elses approval.  We all have our own styles and not everyone likes the same thing.  Keep on writing!

Dear Butterflies, thank you - and you are right, I've found myself not writing for a few days now, as if no words of inspiration will come until I'm done fuming!

LgnJhn, what can I say?  You have made my day, friend and your words do much to heal my wounds.  Thank you.

Sudhir, Eloise and Beth, thank you also!

Corinne
