Sing to me by the light of the moon, gentle raven
Rest your wings in my hands so warm
and in them find thy haven
Thou hast flown long and hard through thy life
I offer to thee now a place of respite
far from the noise and strife

Thine eyes tender bird do indeed hide much
Thou hast flown for ages without a
kind word or a lover's touch
With wings of sable you held your heart
Flying, seeking to find that one
who can provide the missing part

So a welcome gentle raven we give to thy soul
Here will your heart be healed
                      your spirit made whole
Until the day that you can fly again
Toward a life that knows only joy
away from your life of pain

Hello Shakespeare, well...I mean Sven, how beautiful and hopeful words are, and the flow is perfect.  I may be wrong, but, of course your poem is about healing the pain of the raven who is often viewed a dark spirit, but, I feel that the raven is just an image that you choose to replace who you are really speaking of - yourself or a woman you love, whose heart is now becoming dark like that of the raven because of all the pain and loveless times, excellent technique.  I loved this!

Take care,
Melissa Honeybee

Thank you all. . .

Tracie, thank you my friend. . .

Marge, thank you as well, I really like that line too!!

Melissa, thank you for your words and your insight. . .

I know that the raven is mostly seen as negative image, but I have decided to show it here as an image of someone whose life has become dark. . .someone who has suffered much, but because she is a raven (with that negative image) no one will offer her solace. . . the speaker offers her that which she seeks, that which no one else has offered her. . . peace. . . hope. . .love. . .

I know that I speak of the raven as "she" but you could reverse the roles also. . . place a male in the raven's role, and a female in the speaker's role. . .the meaning is still the same. . .

Thank you all again. . .

Whenever I think of a raven, I think of Poe and his lost love Lenore.  You seem to have expanded upon that.  Simply beautiful.
