Your Stare |

My fingers softly trace your hollowed cheekbones. With gentle hands I smooth back your graying hair. I whisper that it's OK now I'm here with you. But I see no recognition in your stare. I think back to a time when you were full of life. A smile so bright and your laughter like a song. All it took was just a simple twist of fate. And the friend that I had known so long was gone. I talk to you, hoping you'll respond to me. Then pulling the covers smooth around your frame. I look to see if you've heard a word I've said. Knowing if you came back now you wouldn't be the same. I step up to the window staring into space. I think back, when we were young, you and I. All the vows we made and promised we would keep. Swearing we'd be best of friends until we die. I turn and try one final time to break through. Knowing in my heart I've lost my lifelong friend. They pull the plug and then you take one final breath. I watch your weak existance coming to it's end. My fingers softly trace your hollowed cheekbones. With gentle hands I smooth back your graying hair. I whisper that it's OK now I'm here with you. But I see no recognition in your stare. |

This has brought tears to my heart. What a sad story you have brought to rhyme. How beautifully written this is. Love and hugs, Lizzie "Poetry is the true expression of my soul, it is my ultimate means of communication. It is my rainbow of delight." |

Thank you all for your replies.. It has been many months since I have posted here. Unable to find words in my saddened heart to express the emotions that fill me. I have missed you all very much.. and hope that I again can find my poetic voice. Needing to find friendship here that may at least shadow the one that has been lost to me forever. I pray that you all are well and life has been kind to you. Your words of comfort and kindness make it possible for me to breathe easy.. for this was not an easy poem to write and took me several tries. Still not even echoing the pain that my heart experiences over my loss. Again.. thank you. |
