Complaints about the mess he made
Can now be laid to rest
We learned today that “Oscar” died
Walter Matthau played him best

Part of an ‘Odd Couple’, then
‘Grumpy Old Men’ one and two
This curmudgeon played them all
With grace and humor too

It’s sad to think he’s gone
No more movies will he start
But we can always find him
In the reruns in our heart

a wonderful tribute, beautiful poem. At least he will be somewhat immortal, his image forever on the silver screen

Poet deVine, not being an American, i confess i have no idea on who Walter Matthau is but i thought this was a fine tribute, what with including his lifetime's work in the poem itself...

lovely last two lines:
But we can always find him
In the reruns in our heart
sums how dearly this person will be sorely missed

if i may ask a favour:i have replied to your Freedom challenge and will like your comments...pls do reply to my post "Freedom In Ten Words" in Open#8...thanx you

Sharon, you said it best.  He will sorely be missed.  My best recollection of him is not from the Odd Couple, or GOM, but a horrid little movie with Robin Williams..."The Survivors"...gawd but I'm gonna miss that old coot.

Truly a fine actor indeed, he will be missed.. Only last night I was watching him play Mr Wilson in Denis the Menace!!  It was great to see him again.

Sharon you have penned a wonderful tribute to a wonderful actor!!

my body goes on, my spirit has died,

The man had an incredible gift. I will miss his sour old face that always put a smile on my face very much. Well done, Sharon

Walter was really something else...I enjoyed the recent Grumpy Old Men movies with him and Jack Lemmon and Sophia Loren and Ann Margret and also "Out to Sea" was a romp...James

He will be quite missed...this is a good tribute to him!!  My favorites with him were Grumpy Old Men 1 and 2!!  The day I found out he'd passed...the scenes played out in my head occasionally throughout the day!!
Goodbye to him, from ME!!
