This one was written for a very good friend and colleague, who left for a new job in a different country... but not before leaving a lasting impression... Suggestions for a better title are welcome... "Saying Goodbye" Seeking greener pastures we all go, After riches, glory, fame and dough, Taking calculated risks, at times grave, Fighting many dangers, being brave. Wading through testy waters to be first, We move in constant search of our goal, Contentment is never attained, the lust, For more, forever pushes our troubled souls At times when hurdles raise ugly hoods, attack And the going gets tougher and steep, Then, my friend, its time to hold back, To reflect for a moment and ponder deep. Be strong, may the winds support your wings, Be brave, may fear not cripple your feet, But be calm at moments when cruel things Make vengeful attempts to curtail your feat. Remember these words of a sincere friend, Who, for you, always stayed and cared, Remember the times wonderfully spend, When such thoughts were always bared I will always miss your presence much, With your charm, this heart you touched, In your absence, I will strive my level best, For, in my soul, you are a permanent guest. -----< !signature--> Death, be not proud, though some have called thee, Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; - John Donne [This message has been edited by Sudhir Iyer (edited 06-29-2000).] |

Sudhir, Great tribute to your friend. Thanks for sharing. Lone Wolf Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. --William Wordsworth |

Sudhir, another for my file from your wizardry. The title fits and good-byes are ok as long as the heart never has to voice them. Wonderful tribute and very sentimental [This message has been edited by Mark Bohannan (edited 07-09-2000).] |

Lovely poem, Sudhir, and sad as it is, life is full of goodbyes. My parents are at an age where they now say goodbye to friends at funerals, since they are all old and dying one by one. Only one thing I'd suggest changing in this poem, the word "dough" is kind of a cliche, not sure what I'd suggest in place of it. Just a suggestion. Take care, I enjoy reading your stuff! Corinne |

Corinne, Thanks for your appreciative words... All the time since I wrote this one, I have been thinking of that one word dough, it is cliche - could mean bread(food) or money(not perfectly English in the sense of the word), and I am not vey sure what I meant when I first wrote it, but later just couldn't find anything to fit in, probably will have to rework the entire line or even the stanza... (and that is a risk), because what I wrote then were feelings from within, now things could mess themselves up if not taken care of. Could you suggest an alternative line, though, I will be very grateful... regards and thanks, sudhir |
