This is the story of my New Year's Bash. It's not the best poem I've ever written (actually, it's probably one of the worst), but it's kinda fun, so I thought I'd share it.

2001 is coming tonight!
Thoughts of joy, and thoughts of fright
Whatever happens, we go out with some fun
Never stopping ‘till the sight of the sun

Look now! The party’s started with six
Even though we have no drinks to mix

The oldest one is seventeen
We will have no drinks, it seems
But that’s ok, we can still have fun
And party until the sight of the sun

Things started out kind of slow
People talked of places to go
And then we turned the music loud
Six of us had become a crowd!

Midnight nears, and we have a dispute
Of what we will do in our great tribute
We’ve made our decision as midnight strikes
Six nude teens in the snow… yikes!

We celebrate anew with each time zone
We played board games, for reasons I don’t know
Watching MTV’s party 5 times in a row
As the night wore on, people began to go…

The first one fell at 4 am
Just fell over on old Christmas ham
And now, the party is going with 5
Still enough to keep the rocking alive!

The second went with the news at 5
The third went soon after a glorious fight
The fourth was gone when the sky turned pink
We three were too tired even to think

Our party was beginning to die, you see
Because we were only left with three

I knew whom sleep would soon overtake
My friend, conversing with a snake
He was gone soon after six
A brave fighter, he will be missed

Oh, what is a girl to do!
Our troops were down to only two

Poor Gina made it to 7am
When the sun had touched the air
I saw her in the fetal position
On a carpeted flight of stairs

It’s really hard to keep the fun
When your party has only one

I saw the carnage of the old sandman
One guy was even on the fan!
Stepping over bodies left and right
Oh, the snoring… a terrible fright!

Before I gave in at 8:15
I pondered last night’s party scene
As a pulled a pillow near
I sighed, already dreaming of next year!

May you all find hope in the promise of this new year and in the promise of each sunrise. God bless you in 2001!!!

also the relation to your friends as troops was quite witty
