dear all who have gamely tried lakewalker's challenge, being a japanese poetry fan myself, i am more than gladdened at the encouraging response you guys have shown...im very proud of your attempts and do hope that you will continue to express yourself through the form of haiku... may i clarify that though your efforts adhere to the syllable count of 5-7-5, however haiku must be nature-related(seasonal words such as spring, snow, leaves, fall etc) must be found...senryu is also based on 5-7-5 syllable count and is about everything and anything...hence most of your efforts fall into the latter category... hereby, may i introduce another form of haiku?haiku may also be written based on the 3-5-3 syllable count...heres one: leaves on flight chasing the rainbow who beckons above all, pls keep writing..i'll keep reading... ![]() |

Thanks for all the neat info! Your haiku is wonderful. I was never able to say a lot through haikus, and I respect everyone who does. Thanks for posting. "Where there is great love there are always miracles" -Cather "Love heals everything, and love is all there is"- Zukav |

Thanks so much for the explanation. I've always wondered what the difference was. Can you expound more on the haiku part...like what other words exactly has to be found in it? Yesh, I'm still trying t figure out the intricacies to writing haikus, but this 5-7-5 and 3-5-3 thingy is still beyond me. I mean, sometimes when I read a haiku, I take quite a while to figure out what it is being written about. So, do we have to introduce the topic into the structure? |
