the road to hell is paved with unintentional. the lamps that hang burn flammable apologies, occasional bridges offer a box of matchstick regrets at either end (so you can ignite no matter which direction you go) sometimes you can see a dying love off to one side, wilting, choked out among flourishing green lies sometimes an injured heart lies panting on the side, victim to those who wanted to get to their hell faster than anyone else. it was unintentional-- as is every other cobblestone in the road I look back on my road, the length that I have come, the length I have yet to go. I've stopped laying the mortar down for a while I hope I glance over at that heart, put one of my cobblestones back in the pile I can't go back (there's no way I can carry this wounded heart that far. I've laid too many cobblestones) maybe we'll just wander into the field together and disappear [This message has been edited by Portia (edited 06-13-2000).] |

This reminded me of the Greek myths about Hades; Sisyphus, Tantalus, Ixion, and the guy with the sieve. It also reminded me of the "pagan" philosophers in the first ring of Hell in Dante's Inferno. The images were just so strong. A sadly beautiful piece. |
