I met a dynamic 18 year old woman The other day. We hit the town, Rode around, Looking for fun, New faces to gaze upon. And I finally saw how much I have Changed; How much I have lost to that oh, so Accomplished thief called Life. I used to be so trusting, In strangers only friends I would find. Until they robbed me blind, Sliced my back to bloody ribbons From behind. I saw my old self in her Outlook, So free, halfway wild, Open to man and whatever they May say and show, Tell and hide. My ears used to find truth Somewhere down the line, Now all I hear are lies. Or is it my poisoned brain, Convinced this is the way of it? Could it be my ever-searching heart, With its locked-up key, Tarnished and aged, No longer caring if its shine is seen? Ah, the wisdom of a teen. The frivolity of youth, The confidence within. So unaware, but doesn't really care. And here I sit, Old beyond my years, Wishing I could throw it all to the Wind like she does. Say "OK, Life!!! Here I am!! Put me in the thick of it!!" But my heart is knocking on my mind's Door now, Reminding me of the scars it Bears. And that age-old saying is Suddenly crystal clear-- "I wouldn't be a teenager again if you Paid me." *****kynder The years teach much which the days never know. Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Kynder, this was wonderful work.!! Growing up we can lose that youthful sparkle. I believe it takes effort to be that way when older, but if you do a little everyday it soon becomes natural again. Sure we must guard ourselves from hurt but not to the point of not allowing new people and love into our lives.. I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn..... ~Isis~ (Goddess - Sovereign of the Spirit) |

~Kynder,...gosh have you hit this hard. Man,...you know exactly what you are talking about here....you know how I can tell?...hehe. Unfortunately I know this. I have thought these thoughts and felt this way. I consider myself reserved???? perhaps that's a good word....but I do and it's all from past experience and things that I saw go on and take place around me with negative effects. Goodness,....we think alike. hehe. Great poem,..struck many a chord in me. Thank you for sharing this. *Peace. |

Another great work I think all teens are like that. I know I was a long time ago then I became like you in the poem. But you have to dare to live and love even if it brings some pain. If there was no sarrow there would be no Joy. great Work Blue |

I know that feeling too! So often I think back to how that was when I would talk to anyone anywhere, and laughed, and didn't care, and now I prefer to hide, incase I'm bitten again! So often one thinks: oh to be like I was! But surely not if all the disappointments were to happen once more! Sometimes I think the world has two sorts of people in it: the users and the used. Why don't the used ever meet each other so they can be friends and have fun? Not fair, is it. Sniff!! But anyway, as Isis said, it's better to always remain open and hope for the best, otherwise you might miss it! Lotharingia "For God's sake, he's a poet. Poets are meant to feel miserable. Otherwise, what the hell are they here for? What are they going to write about?" Tom Holland |

I can certainly relate, a few months I ago it happened to me...I was no longer a teenager. Scary thought. Ah, the wisdom of a teen. The frivolity of youth, The confidence within. So unaware, but doesn't really care. And here I sit, Old beyond my years, Wishing I could throw it all to the Wind like she does. Say "OK, Life!!! Here I am!! Put me in the thick of it!!" I still want to have that energy, a teenager has. I am not ready to a "mature adult". Life is too short to serve your society as a slave. I want to run free eternally. A wonderful poem, excellent. A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry |
