A Connor and Brianna Poem

the letter came to him that day
in the last days of Culloden
reading it took his breath away
he had to get back to her, but when?
the English, it seemed, had been defeated
victory for Lallybroch's own!
but until the English retreated
Brianna would still be left alone

Connor kept the note close to his heart
scratched in haste and quickly sealed
"My dear Lord Connor" did Jenny start
and to his eyes was Brianna's secret revealed
she told of Brianna's morning illness
how her body was tired and weary
how she prayed and cried in the stillness
and this made Connor's eyes teary

in his eyes, he could picture the child
the child carried by Brianna his own
mattered not whether son strong or daughter mild
it would grow strong with much love shown
but he could not think long of child or wife
there was a battle still to be won
and daily Connor fought for his life
until the day that the war was done

news of his child give him new strength
to rid the English from his land
to keep his child free, he fought at length
and many of the foe died at his hand
he was then dubbed by the King a Knight
and as such, returned to his home
Brianna, his love, his own, was his first sight
ne'er again, would he leave her alone

the time came for their child to be born
and Brianna delivered to them a son
just before sunrise on a cold winter's morn
making Connor glad that war was done
and so began their life of love again
their son would grow proud, stong, and free
their love would last forever and know no end
a love that was strong, as love should always be
