The Gift Yesterday I gave, and in the giving Knew all of Life in one short taste Of ecstacy...that made a flowered glory Bloom in desert waste! Today the buds lie sere and brown, In hopeless drouth expired... And grief walks 'mid the dead with me Whose gift was undesired. |
