A fire breathing monster Creeps in little Sammy Kurchip's bedroom for the night Hides in the closet Snorts out rings of smoke Covering the boy's head As he sleeps, His eyes are scrunched up tight The monster makes his way Towards the bed And growls in the poor boy's ears "Wake up Sammy, Let's play" "Wake up Sam, lets play a game" The boy whimpers Cries Covers his pillow over his ears But the monster just removes it Scratches the boy's face, and collects his tears Footsteps outside the door Stop and someone taps the door "Sam, are you alright?" His mother whispers She quietly steps in And The monster creeps into the shadows She kisses her son's head Looks around the room And shudders Decides to go put a sweater on And leaves her child to die |

Joy, I did not quite understand this poem, which is why I didn't reply before. But I am not letting any such heartfelt words as this go by with a "0" next to them. Anyway, it sounds like there was some terrible trauma here, and I send my hugs. catalinamoon |

No trauma. I was just bitter and my words took the shape of this poem. This doesn't stem off from personal experience. Maybe I watched a TV movie? Thanks for replying though. After I wrote it, I figured I might scare some people or confuse them. Sorry. Joy |

Joy 14, This had a frightening reality to it, and I'm not sure I understood it either. BUT it was well written and I wanted to let you that. Be well Kethry Growth demands a temporary surrender of security. Gail Sheehy |

Joy...I'm a little weird, but it made sense to me. The allegory of the little boy, fearing the "monsters" that lurk within the shadows...I think many children have those fears. Some even carry over into adulthood. I know many adults who are afraid of the dark. Not because of what their common sense tells them is NOT so, but because of the possiblity that there just might be some thing really there. And then there are some who fear the darkness because of the "demons" that come to haunt their sleep each night....old experiences that resurface with the night, "scratching our faces and collecting our tears" as we cry alone in the darkness of our despair. Well done. Hardrock |
