This is a little poem I wrote about my own method of coming up with story/poem ideas. I also wrote it because I don't like the way all these snobby intellectuals have made poetry into a high-class and boring subject, by adding all these dumb rules to it. It seems that in order to write poetry, you have to be some sort of PhD genius from Oxford or something like that. Sorry if I've offended anyone, but I just don't like the idea of creating rules and regulations for how you can and can't express your true inner being. Now enough with this rant and on with the poem! It is a strange relationship I have with music. In music I can see all my ideas, And all my sorrows, and greatest triumphs. I see no rules and regulations in it, No harsh rules about what you can and can't create Due to phonetic constraints in a language. Music is the soil on which all my ideas grow, And it is that which summons an unrestrained emotion, From my soul, that has no worldly limits. While others toil over their ephemeral god, I cry or laugh myself to sleep just by Listening to one piece of music. [This message has been edited by fractal007 (edited 09-30-2000).] |

It is true that listening to one piece of music, or playing it or singing it yourself, for that matter, can have a profound effect on you, and you don't have to understand the rules for that to happen. Don't be misled, though. There are definite rules for writing music, and while the masters can break them, they do have to understand them for their work to be effective. Interesting thoughts here, nevertheless. Thanks for sharing. |
