Recompense

I would that I might gather
All the memories in my heart,
And bind them 'round with silver twine
And place them well apart
From all the cares that fret the soul
That they might sacred be...
Unsullied by the pain which Life
Has offered unto me.
In some far archive, ever dear,
I'd keep the silver bright...
Unblemished by the storms of day,
Protected from the night.
And, tho the years are lonely,
God at least was kind to me,
When parting us---in recompense
He offered Memory!

Rex, I can relate to this one even more than usual. I live on memories, and hopes and dreams..This is beautiful, as is all your work.

LM....Thank you very much for your kind comments.  I sincerely appreciate them.  All my poetry is from my book "Songs of Sorrow".  None of my work here is spontaneous.  Sorry to respond here and use board space, but you do not show an E-mail address.  Regards, Rex.

Rex
Spontaneous or not it's still wondrous.

Hi Rex!    I really like this one... maybe because of the word memory!   I do believe memories are everything... without them... where would we be?!  You take care!
