I wrote this poem after my now ex-fiance set our small apartment building on fire while I was inside unaware to what he was doing in the basement... writing this was a turning point in my healing process. When I wrote it, I really didn't care whether or not it was going to be good poetry, I just wrote because it helped. I'd love to hear some thoughts on it! Thanks. ~Kelly The Fire Inside Will Always Burn I feel foolish, as I simply cry. I want to stop, I really try. Streaming down my cheeks, they remain to fall. They stop for a minute and I think "that's all" *FLASH*... an unwanted thought enters my head push it out, push it out...no!!!...loud and clear, it enters instead I hear sirens in the distance...and see visions of smoke... and recall memories of, the promises broke. I can't breath, I begin to panic I run outside scared and frantic. He's not here, now I know why... he didn't care, it was all a lie. So many people and one on the phone and amongst them all, I feel alone. My world is burning…down before me say he didn't do it... not to me... no, it couldn't be... Crying harder, the vision has vanished, and from my life he has been banished. But the scars and hurt, I feel inside will remain there 'til, the end of time. |

I think it's written with a great deal of feeling! Very good since you say you just wrote what was on your mind...you must think in verse! |

Hi Kelly....I think that if it is written from the heart and expresses your feelings then it can only be good, paticularly if helps to heal! God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown |

As one who has been through a fire, very much like yourself, I think you captured it exactly. I'm glad this was cathartic for you. A burning house is still my biggest fear. This was hard for me to read, but that's a good thing for you as a poet. I hope you'll post more |

Kellsue, I know exactly what you are talking about, I have been in two fires, one was a chemical explosion that blew me and two other guys out a door. You live with this fire the rest of your life, in what ever you try to salvage, in material things and or your heart. You smell smoke all the time, and now it's a sick smell. Yes I know, and your title say's it all, yes it will forever burn. My heart out to you kid. It does get easier. But never gone. Joel. I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel. |

Kelly, what a horrible thing for you to go through. Your poem vivdly brings the feelings to me. I have never been in a fire, but I have had betrayals almost as horrible. To have the combination, no one should have to feel that. My heart goes out to you. I also love the poem just for itself, as it does take you into it and make you feel, and to me, thats what poetry is. catalinamoon |

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this poem. This time was hard for me, and this writing this poem helped me to move on. Thank you all again for taking the time to read and reply! ~Kelly ~Kellsue Reflect upon your present blessings-of which every man has many-not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some. ~Charles Dickens We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. ~Winston Churchill |

I do not normally express a lot of my "own" feelings in this forum... but you have touched something deep within my heart here. My Aunty died in a house fire... and when I read your poem I cried... what an awful experience for you! I actually just saw there, staring at your words... trying to put into words how I felt... which I have not been able to do... I just want you to know that I really liked your poem... it really meant something to me... I am sorry this happened to you. |

What a terrible thing to happen to you. I find it almost impossible to believe that someone could do such a thing. WOrds do heal. thanks for sharing. Fire is a huge fear with me, I am almost paranoid about it. hope all is well now. love and best intentions. I don't think I can find the words to express my sorrow for knowing what you had to go through...I hope you heal a little more each day, and you have my blessings! |
