BYYD

Your golden hair, your soft brown eyes, your kisses soft and sweet.
The first time that I saw you, you swept me off my feet.
I knew I had to have you, I had to find a way,
To bring you in, to my sad life, and make you want to stay.

But in you came, and settled down, and I didn't have to ask,
You made it all so easy, what I had thought a task.
You gave me love, you made me laugh, you made my life complete,
And you never stopped, you kept right on, with those kisses soft and sweet.

You snuggled on the couch beside me, your head upon my knee,
And drifted off to gentle sleep, and "I" became a "we".
For all these years, you've stayed with me, and never went astray,
I thank God, for all the love, you've shown me every day.

I have all, a man could want, I couldn't ask for more,
And I'll still love you Sandy, even if you snore.
You're all I need, you're everything, you're the world to me,
For tho you're just a dog to some, to me you're BYYD.

To Sandy…my Big Yellow Yard Dog

I have NEVER seen a poem without a response until today....I posted this just so folks would see that all my life is not dark.  I wonder now if it was even read?  Hmmmmm....will have to rethink this....glad I didn't submit this for publication in the book.  Well, I enjoyed it when I wrote it...and still do....and I still enjoy my BYYD 13 years later.  And I still love all of you......Hardrock.

This was the greatest
My husband use to tell me I loved my dog
more than I loved him before he was taken from me.I know exactley how you feel.
I refered to my little dog as my little man
I miss him so.
But your poem reminded me of the joy he brough tinto my life
thanks

Much thanks Avanti and Bluebrdy......This dog has been my greatest love.  She asks for so little from me....she has been there for me in my darkest moments....and she never tires of my incessant ramblings.  I tell her things that would chill a humans soul...and she just looks at me with those big brown eyes.  I have cried...and she kissed away my salty tears.  The greatest gift I could give her, in addition to my love, was to immortalize her in a poem.  Now all of you know Sandy.  Thanks.

Hard, I loved my Millie (a great Daine) for 14 years, she was the love of my life, I'd rather have her back than my X.
Loved the poem guy.

That was such a great twist there, all along I thought it was your lady you were speaking of, right till the last few lines.
I had a cat for 19 years, my Mia, who I loved as well or better than any of the men in my life, and it broke my heart forever when she left me a year and a half ago. The unconditional love they give us is so freel given, and no strings attached. I already loved your work and your heart. Now I do even more,
Sandra

I had to go and find this since I just happened to be on-line and you were nasty enough to post it when I was In Wales
This is so sweet, Marvin. I love your dog for loving you!
I wrote a poem for one of my cats, Hamish Hamilton too, once (inspired by Kynder's kitty one). Didn’t post it though.
What would we do without the furry friends?

Missed this one somehow.  Superb tribute Marvin...Having lost my "buddy" last year I can really relate.  There is no love like it.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

Hey Hardrock - Guess I should have dropped by here last month....This is a GREAT poem and my husband would love it as much as I do.  We have one of those big, old, snoring, loveable yellow dogs too.  Wouldn't trade him for anything.  This was wonderful.  Bonnie

Hello Hardrock,
Thanks for the poem loved the hook and guessed the ending. The initials had me stumped and I spent the poem going through possibilities. It's great.
