THE ALTRUIST Sit with me a moment, If you can a moment spare, Raise up your head a moment, Throw down the load you bear. I know it is intrinsic to you To think ahead, because you care. I know that you are one of the few Who the burdens of the Earth, do bear. But I, who do while away my living, All the while envying your fortitude, Envying your constant altruistic striving Piously sharing your burden with platitudes. I, whose life is meaningful because of you, I, who live life moment to moment not knowing, Whether the road I travel will carry me through This world in comfort, or even where the road is going. I salute you and give you the most precious gift From among the few possessions I do possess. I give you the testament of my vagrants life, A testament of joy , albeit aimless. My life,like the free wind everblowing, With never a care, has been worthless But yours, lived selflessly, has been A pearl thrown to swine - mirthless. So come and sit by my side a moment, And laugh at the bountiful earth, Created by YOUR every moment, And realise your, true worth. |
