Mixed Dreams...

There Came A Knocking

That first night
wanted to drown out the sounds
of next door
and fill my emptiness
as I listened to the rhythm of
The Tell Tale Heart
wrapping myself up tightly,
occassionally quilt covering my eyes
with my favorite memories brought from home...
just a touch of familiarity
on this particular night, while
waiting for that knock
at my door...
a late night date with Edgar
and heard the cawling of his Raven.
Lasted well into the dark,
so exhausted was I
that sleep eventually came
as I rested in his words
and awoke to chills
as he brushed past me
and disappeared
into the early morning hours...

Upon the secretary...
There, lay handscribed
a note

My Dearest M,
I shall meet thee, evening next
Where starlight shall pale
Upon thy presence.
Come drifting through
The garden gates of wrought,
In my darkened silence I await
Lips to sing their melody,
Hazel eyes, to cast their spell of hold
A gentle being, carrying her basket of dreams
Petal by petal, scenting me
In soft-murmured memory of truth

Ahh...My Heart, My Lonely Spirit
Lies in wait...
Leaving me trembling
In my bed of thoughts...

Framed in mind, the morrow and thee

Edgar

Lakewalker

well I got the chills  that night after  watching the telltale heart and other poe stories all alone in a strange place...but nothing gives you chills more than going to his tomb in Balto. and toasting there after a wedding

A fantasy story with just enough historical reality to make it eerie...nice

Maureen,
I liked the raven and Tell Tale Heart but this was better.
Be well

What a great combination of Maureen and Poe..I love it. How fun to have seen his house and slept there. I can imagine a wee bit chilly too, but I bet it was an awesome experience.

I feel the cold...burr. I'd want to wrap myself up in a quilt for sure. That sure must have been an experience!
