The miasma gathered once more
Insectile voices gibbering softly
Taunting and teasing

They whisper to me at times
When against glass
Wind-driven branches scritch
Softly lit by baleful sky
They whisper things
And I sometimes listen

Bravely they sought me last night
Their words now coherent
A litany of death
But towards whom?
No need to question
For I know
I know
I know
I rise
And through the storm-tossed night
Go stalking through each room

Baptized in blood and spirit
Sipping my coffee
As the klaxons roil and weep
At the absence of
Insectile voices

The night burns blue and red

Alicat

As I sit here dimly thinking
Watching modem lights a-blinking
Churning out poetic hash.
Lord, in all Your piety,
Help me keep my sanity:
Please don't let the modem crash! --Alicat

Whoa Ali!! Very dark indeed. Your talent shines through in this piece.

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shodows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face...

William Butler Yeats

Catalinamoon: Thanks.  Even us 'Open' poets can be dark at times. :v

Marilyn: *blush* Thanky ma'am.

Nikolette: Thanks.  Glad you caught the reference.

Lotharingia: *bows and preens* Danka.  And thanks for the insight into your nome de plume.

Deborah1: *evil grin* Thanks for the compliment.  When I write dark, that's what I aim for.
