No baby's breath is softer
than her footsteps in the night
She comes to claim the conquered bodies
   fallen in the fight
She lays them in forgotten graves
   that no man may discern
And she decrees that from those graves
   no mortal may return

Her children of the darkness
usher forth to do her will
To light the fire 'neath the bodies
   lying cold and still
Then dance around the etheral pyre
   built upon the lawn
And follow as their silent mother
   steals away at dawn

And as she leads her children
to their home within the night
Her darkest fear is that she will be
   caught within the light
And turning now to see the sunrise
   just below the hill
She brings her children close to her
   to shake the morning chill

Sing while you may
-The Prophet Q'spel

Your pain is for you alone, As it is, As it was, As it will be forever, Amen
-The Prophet Q'spel

I read the title and thought this would be sweet. Not so. Definitely not sweet. But great imagery, even vampyrs care for their own.

Be well

Very chilling, and yet sweet in its own way. Interesting theme, done differently than usual. Great concept.

Thanks Cat, my mind works in odd ways sometimes.
This is, primarily, an illustration of The Spirit of Loss, one of my pantheon of spirits that appear in my faery tales. She embodies forgetfullness and futility. Here especially, the futility of war. Just thought I'd let you in on the inspiration.
Sorry about the suprise Kethry.
Thank you all for your kind words.
