The Perversion of Science - Atom Bomb The streets are dark now, when once they were filled With all walks of life, Embracing a new way of life. Wires hang overhead, remnants of a miracle gone awry. The last remains of the old amusement park, Still stand amidst the clutter of ruin. Slowly, the procession of people passes. Faces torn off, and flesh mangled, They are the remains of a happy world. "Remember us, children," they whisper, for they are All that remains of what was. A plane flies overhead. "Help has arrived!" they all cry out. But the plane just drops another bomb on a Nearby city. So they too will feel man's arrogance. They too will see what it is to harness the very Things which make up our environs. And they too will cry and wail. "Remember" We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men Leaning together Headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Our dried voices, when We whisper together Are |

Remember we do, and regret what happened. A sad, terribly tragic thing. |

America makes no apology for the Atom bomb. War is an ugly human fetish. But the bottom line is: people die. If not them, then us. Basic survival instincts demand it be them. I make no excuse for what my country did hell I wasn’t even born as yet. But it is a burden I bear none the less. ---------------------- Spreading insanity, one post at a time |

It is a terrible tragedy that we humans seek power with unspeakable destruction and violence. Our hubris is beyond comprehension. Thanks for writing poems like this, Fractal! Lotharingia "Dreams are life, reality, creation" Miguel de Unanumo |

Thank you all for the compliments. I have decided to write a series of poems on the perversion of science. I started with this one, after I saw a television program on the atom bomb. It turned out that the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was really a test of a newer bomb that the US had made. That made me rather angry. Since WW1, science has been used very much for killing people. Consider the toxic gasses used in WW1. That was basic chemistry. Thank you all for your compliments. |

Reminds me of the poem April 2031, the guy who invented the bomb (forgotten completely sorry) should have never shared it with the world. One of my biggest fears is to be a survivor of a nuclear war like in 'The Day After!' Wonderful and thought provoking work here hon.. I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn..... ~Isis~ (Goddess - Sovereign of the Spirit) |

I visited Hiroshima and it would be hard to imagine the necessity of dropping another bomb...I remain astonished...James |

Fractal, thought provoking and a timely reminder that in war no-one wins. Be well Keth "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- Cole |
