Thirty-one years ago today A father gave his daughter away The sun was shining, the sky so blue As both of them whispered their "I dos" The love in her heart was oh, so pure Their lives together would surely endure The first indiscretion didn't take long And left her wondering what she'd done wrong? So she worked even harder to make him a home But it just didn't matter, for still he did roam After three years their first son was born A reason to celebrate that early morn Things would get better, more like her dreams No one ever heard her internal screams With a husband and baby things couldn't be bad She should be thankful for this life that she had Two children followed, and those three were her life She tried hard to raise them in spite of the strife She'd wait to leave him until they were grown Her nightmares and heartache she held as her own After seventeen years to her father she cried It's over, he's gone, please know how I've tried As he hugged her and gently wiped her tears away I've never been prouder of you, she heard him say. This poem is terribly sad and yet uplifting. An awful (though all too common story) of a sad marriage, but at least there is a great dad there! I really liked it a lot! Lotharingia "Dreams are life, reality, creation" Miguel de Unanumo |

Oh I loved this. The pain of being lost for so many yrs, and that wonderful"dad" still their for his daughter. This brought some memories of my dad back, he was always there for me no matter waht. You did a superb job of portraying hope and a happy ending. Just loved it!!!!! The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose...--Hada Bejar |

Linda..This is exceptional. A great poem of your married life...written from beginning til now. I just hope I can be as good a father to my girls as your dad was to you. Hardrock |

17 years of emotion pent and spent in so few words to draw an amazingly clear picture! This is excellent. Your lament is tangible...I wish you luck... Evan Drake With a long held breath given dark freedom, the single flame in sorrow's window flickers out. ~EWD~ |

This is so clear and hopeful despite the sdaness which shines through, so glad your dad could be there for you. Keth Kethry. When dark of night steals your soul. Think of me and be made whole. |

Thank you all for your kind words. What a difference 31 years make, and God Bless my dad, who at 85, is still the man in my life. Linda |

~Linda,...wow, what a brave and strong woman. What a heart heavy scene you painted before the ending. Just lovely there, with that (ending). A blessing. Take care now. *Peace. |
