I should've known better,
Than to think you'd understand,
Should've know better,
You'd just hide your head in the sand.

Foolishly I kept hoping,
That you'd understand my plight,
Silently I kept praying,
That you'd join me in my fight.

Alas I'm deemed unworthy,
For understanding or sympathy,
I simply don't deserve your time,
The time it would take to understand me.

For long months now I've been toiling,
I never get time to even think of me,
No longer the fires are burning,
The light within is failing can't you see?

I wanted to lean on you,
Wanted you to be the strong one,
Instead I'm left standing all alone,
And slowly I'm coming undone.

I should've known better,
Than to think you'd stand by my side,
I should've known better,
I must confide.

I must face all this alone,
Seems to be my lot,
I'll just leave you to your lonely ways,
A life filled with unspeakable filth and rot.

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....
